Sly2Soft Applications - General

Q. What do I need to run Sly2Soft applications?
A. You will need a Pocket PC or Microsoft SmartPhone device.

Q. What Pocket PC processors do Sly2Soft applications support?
A. Sly2Soft develops their Pocket PC applications for the ARM, MIPS and SH3 processors.

Q. Can I run Sly2Soft applications on my SmartPhone device?
A. Yes, but you have to download Sly2Soft software for SmartPhone only from SmartPhone section of this site.

Q. Do Sly2Soft applications get upgraded?
A. Yes, as a result of bug fixing and enhancements. Be sure to check regularly for new versions (and new applications).

Q. How do I know whether Sly2Soft applications will work on my device?
A. All of our products are based on the Microsoft .NET framework - which means they should work on any existing PocketPC machine, as Microsoft has produced the Compact Framework for all PocketPC devices so far.
NB: Compact Framework works only on Microsoft Smartphone 2003 and higher!

Q. I would like to use one of your products but am reluctant to install the .NET compact framework. Can you give me more information on this?

Q. Can I try out the application before I commit to purchasing?
A. Yes, all products come with a free trial period. If you like what you see, then you can purchase the application on-line and get your serial number for your trial version.

Installing Sly2Soft Applications

Q. How do I install a Sly2Soft product on my device?
A. The process is simple, all you need to do is:
- download the correct installation program to your desktop pc from this site.
- Make sure your desktop PC has Microsoft Active Sync installed.
- Connect your device to your desktop PC and you should get an Active Sync connection.
- Run the installation program on your desktop PC and follow any directions provided.
- Run the application on your device.

Q. I downloaded an application for a free trial, how do I now purchase the full version of the application?
A. Make sure your device is connected to your computer. Run the installer you downloaded and this will install the trial version onto your Pocket PC. If you like the application simply purchase a license from the "Buy" link on the product page. You will then be prompted to make a payment through Share-It! system and a serial number will be emailed to you. Select the 'Registration' menu item from the help menu, enter your serial number, (make sure the case is exactly as printed in the email), and your application will be registered.

Q. Do I need to download and install a 'Full' version of your software after I have received my serial number?
A. No, you do not need to download or install any additional software. Simply launch the software you already installed (even if it has already expired), go to 'Registration' menu and after you input your serial number, your software will become a full version immediately.

Q. During installation or when attempting to run the application, I get a message stating that the product is 'not a valid Pocket PC application'.
A. Please check the following:
- that you are running the installer program on your PC rather than on your handheld device
- that you have the correct version of the application installer program for your device's processor
- that you have installed the .NET Compact Framework. (see The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework FAQs below.)

Q. During installation on my Pocket PC, I get a message: "The .NET Compact Framework could not be found. Please install the .NET Compact Framework and run the installation again."
A. Please do exactly the thing you were asked for. Install the .NET Compact Framework. (see The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework FAQs below.)

Registering Sly2Soft Applications

Q. I have purchased a Sly2Soft product but haven't received a serial number - what do I do?
A. If you do not receive your serial number with 24 hours please email us at support@sly2soft.com and we will send this information to you as soon as possible. We try to send serial numbers as soon as we receive notification of your purchase. However, occasionally we have had problems with our registration emails being blocked by a customer spam filter, or we have received an incorrect email address to send the registration.

Q. I have received my serial number, how do I register my product?
A. The process is simple, all you need to do after you have installed the product is:
- start the application on your device
- Go to the 'Registration' menu, which will load the registration screen
- Enter the serial number (making sure that the case is exactly the same as the details received from us)
- Tap the 'OK' button.

Q. I am having problems registering my application - I am told that the serial number is not valid. What can I do?
A. Please check that:
- the serial number in the same case as specified in the email you received from Sly2Soft, eg. 'F10HJ67P3' instead of 'f10hj67p3'
- there are no spaces before or after either the serial number
- any 0 (zeros) and O (letter O) are entered correctly.

Q. I have lost my registration details - how can I get these?
A. Email support@sly2soft.com and let us know when you purchased the application. Once your details have been verified we will send you your serial number.

Removing Sly2Soft Applications

Q. How do I uninstall or remove a Sly2Soft application from my Pocket PC?
A. From the Start menu on your device, select Settings > Remove Programs (under the System tab)
- Now simply find the software in the list that you wish to uninstall
- Select it, and click 'Remove'
- At this point you will be asked to confirm your request. To do so, tap 'Yes'
- With some applications there will be further steps. Make sure to follow all on-screen instructions.
- Click 'OK' in the top right corner when finished.

Q. If I uninstall a Sly2Soft application and want to remove the .NET Compact Framework - can I do this?
A. Yes, as long as there are no other applications on your device that require the Compact Framework to run.

The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework

Q. What is the .NET Compact Framework?
A. The Microsoft .NET Compact Framework is a subset of the .NET Framework that is designed to run on resource-constrained devices, providing support for managed code and for Extensible Markup Language (XML) Web services. The .NET Compact Framework greatly reduces the development cost of writing applications and services that run on devices such as smart phones and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

Q. Do I need to install the .NET Compact Framework on my Pocket PC?
A. Yes, all programs for Pocket PC developed by Sly2Soft require the .NET Compact Framework installed on your device. If you are using a device running Windows Mobile 2003 or higher it is already preinstalled on your device's ROM by manufacturer so that you don't have to install it. However, if you are using a device running Windows Pocket PC 2000 or Windows Pocket PC 2002 you do have to install the .NET Compact Framework.

Q. Do I need to install the .NET Compact Framework on my Windows SmartPhone?
A. If you are using Windows SmartPhone 2003 or higher you don't have to install .NET Compact Framework, it is already preinstalled on your device's ROM by manufacturer. If you have Windows SmartPhone 2002 you will not be able to run software from Sly2Soft since .NET Compact Framework cannot be installed on this device.

Q. How do I install the .NET Compact Framework on my device?
A. Simply download the .NET Compact Framework installer and run it having your device connected to your desktop PC. (See .NET Compact Framework download page)

Q. What is the footprint of the .NET Compact Framework?
A. The .NET Compact Framework storage size 1.55MB on Pocket PC 2000/2002. Pocket PC 2003 (also known as Windows Mobile 2003) and Windows SmartPhone 2003 have the .NET Compact Framework in ROM already.

Q. What devices are supported by the .NET Compact Framework?
A. The .NET Compact Framework is supported on Pocket PC 2000, Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs and SmartPhones and embedded systems running Windows CE .NET 4.1 and later.
